Lifestyle Change

When some people hear the term lifestyle change, they see it as this big thing that sometimes seems impossible to achieve. However, if you look at it in a logical/theoretical perspective, ultimately it can be viewed as something completely the opposite.

Now you might be thinking ‘Laura what do you mean?’ This is my perspective.

Think of a lifestyle change as a snowball. Or, you can imagine the process it takes to make a snowball. Hear me out.

When taking on a lifestyle change, whether that be fitness related, career related or anything in between, it always seems the most difficult in the beginning. Now take rolling a snowball. The same thing. The beginning is always hard, you have to choose the right looking snow (not the yellow stuff) and compact it into a small ball. You’ve got to squeeze it together, sometimes add a little more effort when the snow is not quite the right snow (if you get what I mean), but if you persist with adding more and more clumps of snow it eventually forms a ball.

Once you have created that ball shape, you then have to keep making effort, pushing it in one direction then potentially having to switch direction to keep it together and help it grow. Till eventually you get the size and the shape you desire. Now if you tried to think about creating that nice big well rounded snowball from the get go it would’ve seemed near to impossible. However, because of the continuous effect you put into building it, you formed the perfect snowball (also the best in your neighborhood, not that you’re competitive or anything).

Now if we take the same principle, and put that into your version of a lifestyle change, it makes it seem all that more simple to pull apart and achieve what you want to achieve. Talking from a fitness perspective, whether it be training to lose 10kg, complete a marathon or bench press 150kg, we're not going to get that without making some effort now are we?

Now if you ask me, trying to do everything all at once when you’re trying to start something new, it’s never easy. I would know! Previously to taking the Personal trainer and bodybuilding route myself, I tried all the fad diets, tried to workout 7 days a week and within a couple of weeks I was back to my old eating habits and moaning I’m too tired to exercise. Now you’re probably thinking ‘Laura, surely you being a PT and a bodybuilder you’ve always been well structured and organized with your lifestyle?’

My answer is simply no.

I had to start small, it was mainly during the first few months of covid. I found ways to roll and pack my snowball until it all started to set into place. I started off slowly but surely, finding routines and plans that worked for me and kept making the effort till I got to where I am today. But believe me, my neighborhood’s pretty big, so I’ve got to keep making my snowball bigger! I continue to put effort into the multiple little small things that I know will continue to help me achieve what I want to achieve.

Lifestyle change for whoever you may be reading this post, make sure you focus on the small adjustments you can make on a daily basis to start adding effort into making you’re very own snowball! If you’re unsure on where to start regardless to the lifestyle change you want to achieve, drop me a message via Instagram @lgfitnessx or send me an email saying ‘LIFESTYLE’ now and I can help you get started!
